Acupuncture  - Traditional Chinese medicine -

Acupuncture is a part of a complete system of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which has been practiced in China for many thousands of years. It is a form of alternative medicine in which tiny, hair-thin needles are inserted into different points throughout the body - called acupuncture points. This stimulates the nervous system to release natural painkillers and boost immune system cells, healing your body in the process. Its goal is to balance the whole person—physically, mentally and emotionally.  This medicine includes not only Acupuncture but also Cupping, Gua sha, Diet suggestion, Exercise suggestion, Life style suggestion.

What is Acupuncture good for?

  • Stress management ( Anxiety, Irritability, Depression, Low will power, etc. )
  • Digestive problems ( IBS, Acid Reflux, Heartburn, Diarrhea, Constipation, Bloating sensation, etc. )
  • Women's health ( PMS, Menopause, Mood swing, Fertility, etc. )
  • Cosmetic Acupuncture (Slowing down the aging of the skin)
  • Pain management ( Headaches, Migraines, Body pain, emotional pain, etc. )
  • Seasonal allergy (Boost immune system, Sinus congestion, Runny nose, etc. )
  • Post concussion syndrome                                                                                                                                   and more!

Consultation (Including Acupuncture treatment):Acupuncture Needle & Moxibustion (Black stick)

Your initial consultation with an R.Ac involves discussion about your current symptoms and medical history as well as your sleeping patterns, appetite, digestion, and general wellbeing. Women may also be asked about their menstrual cycle and any past pregnancies and child birth.

You might think some questions appear unrelated to your condition but the information you provide helps your R.Ac form a more complete picture of your health.  TCM considers a variety of elements in diagnosis, which as parts of a puzzle, piece together to make up the full picture of your health.  An R.Ac has the training to identify symptoms that will help inform a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.

Your R.Ac will ask you to either sit or lie down in a comfortable position.  Acupuncture is the application of delicate single-use sterilized needles on the skin surface.  Acupuncture needles are very small and thin - often many times smaller in diameter than that of a human hair - and significantly smaller than a traditional doctors syringe.
Patients often find their acupuncture treatment to be quiet and calming.  Many use the treatment as an opportunity to relax, recuperate, and re-balance.

Nutritional Consulting

Would you like to achieve your health goals, naturally and without unwanted side effects? It starts with food! Changes to diet can positively influence so many symptoms including digestion, pain, mental function, mood, sleep, weight, skin quality and energy. Holistic nutritionists understand the connection between food and physiology, and work with you to create dietary and lifestyle strategies that support your particular health goals.

Food and drink are powerful determinants of health; these can either nourish the body or move it closer to “dis-ease”. Through one-on-one nutritional coaching, you can figure out if your eating habits support your health or deplete it. Jennifer will carefully analyze your diet to identify any factors that might be interfering with optimal health such as nutrient deficiency, malabsorption, and food sensitivities. She will then devise a plan to maximize nutrient density using foods most suited to your health needs.

Holistic nutrition, also known as natural nutrition, recognizes that each individual is bio-chemically unique. What works for someone else might not be right for you! Jennifer’s nutritional and lifestyle recommendations are customized to the individual.

 Nutritional coaching is designed to:

  • help you understand the connection between what you eat and how you feel and function,
  • offer practical food and meal ideas best suited to your body’s needs,
  • address dietary triggers that are interfering with you or your children's health,
  • improve digestion and nutrient absorption,
  • deliver a well-rounded approach to your health using targeted nutrition and, as required, quality supplements, botanical support, and lifestyle modifications,
  • help you achieve long lasting change

Our Philosophy is Simple: Eat Real Food!

We help our clients incorporate more whole foods (food as close to its natural state as possible) into their diets, concentrating on those with specific anti-inflammatory properties. Why? Because we each have varying degrees of inflammation in our bodies, which is invisible, yet it manifests itself in different ways and can wreak havoc on our health.

Don't worry, we do not advocate radical diets or the removal of complete food groups as a first step to healing. This approach works for some people, but it means a complete overhaul of diet and lifestyle which may not actually be necessary.

Here at Activate Chiropractic, we prefer to take less drastic measures. First, Jennifer will ensure you are incorporating more anti-inflammatory, whole foods into your diet. She will also explore how food is broken down in your body, because you are not only what you eat, but what you are capable of breaking down and absorbing. After all, your cells need nutrients in order to perform.

 A Holistic Approach...

Holistic nutritionists believe total health is multi-factorial. Along with targeted nutrition, lifestyle and emotional well being are also considered (think exercise and life stressors). We might recommend some lifestyle modifications, supplements and/or herbs when appropriate.

Jennifers services include wellness plans for:

  • weight management
  • gastro-intestinal disorders
  • food allergies and intolerances
  • stress
  • heart disease
  • skin problems
  • blood sugar imbalance / diabetes
  • joint or myofascial pain
  • PMS / menopause
  • and more! If what you are looking for is not included on this list, or you would like to know more about nutrition, please schedule a FREE 15 minute consultation to determine whether Holistic Nutrition is for you!

How are Holistic Nutritionists different from Dietitians?

Holistic nutrition differs from dietetics in that it is not limited by government approved nutritional information. You would find a dietitian in a hospital setting, for example, if you were admitted for bowel disease. He or she would ensure you have an appropriate meal plan during your stay and after you leave. By contrast, Holistic Nutritionists look to uncover imbalances in the body BEFORE there is complete malfunction, and provide targeted nutritional support so you don't wind up in the hospital or in a disease state. If you're someone already diagnosed with a disease, a Holistic Nutritionist can certainly support you too.  We can provide you with natural approaches to caring for your condition, taking into account any prescription medication you are taking.

Is Holistic Nutrition covered by my health insurance?

Holistic Nutrition is not usually covered by most health insurances, but do check. It is a relatively new field in alternative health care compared to more established professions like massage therapy or acupuncture. Some clients have gotten approval from their health insurance provider for their sessions to be covered, on an individual basis.

You would need to make a request through your insurance company. Jennifer can provide a letter to support your request after your first appointment, once she has a better understanding of your health needs and projected number of sessions you require with her.

Either way, please consider the many long-term benefits of getting your health on track. On an individual level, good nutrition can prevent and even reverse disease, thereby reducing your personal medical costs, lowering the number of days you miss work (so you can finally use vacation days for vacation and not sickness!), and preserves your quality of life as you age.

On a societal level, we all pay thrice for sickness; as individuals, taxpayers, and insurance subscribers! Being healthy costs us, but being sick costs us more.

Vibrant health is priceless!
